Elon Musk arrived to the funeral of 31-year-old political activist, Charlie Kirk, receiving cheers as he walked through the door.
The memorial has kicked off at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, Sunday. Kirk, a supporter of President Trump, was the founder of Turning Point USA, a nonprofit organization that advocates for conservative politics in educational institutions. He was shot dead during a public debate with students at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10.
Tyler Robinson, the alleged assassin, was taken into custody after a publicized manhunt that went on for more than 30 hours. The 22-year-old Robinson allegedly said he had “enough” of the “hatred” Kirk was spreading.
Musk arrived at the event to applause, and he was caught on video waving to the crowd. He posted a video of the crowd on X, saying “Every seat in this giant arena that isn’t roped off for security is packed to the ceiling. Honored to be here.”

On the AP’s live stream of the event, Musk could be seen chatting with another man in the crowd. Lip reader Nicola Hickling decoded what the duo were discussing.
The man said, “He will be remembered,” prompting Musk to nod in agreement. The man then said, “But anyway, he has achieved a lot in a short time, hasn’t he?”
Musk continued, “I do want to talk to…” and he then turned away from the camera.
The man continued, “I’d like to see you sort it out. We’ll catch up later.”
In an interview with reporters, Musk also shared his feelings on Kirk, saying he was a man who promoted open dialogue and debate.
“Charlie was a man of ideas. He spoke eloquently. He never even raised his voice. He was a man of peace. Now he’s been murdered in cold blood,” Musk said. “He was killed because his words made a difference. He was showing people the light, and he was killed by the dark.”

Doors for the service opened at 11 a.m. ET (8 a.m. local time) but a throng waited outside from before dawn to secure a spot in the stadium, which has a capacity of 63,400.
Many high-profile officials are going to address the service including President Donald Trump, Vice President J.D Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, Pete Hegseth, Tucker Carlson, Stephen Miller and RFK Jr.
Kirk’s assassination sparked widespread condemnation from Republicans and Democrats. Since the killing, top Trump officials have warned of repercussions for anyone who “celebrates” Kirk’s death. Dozens of people have lost their jobs or been penalized, with even the late night comedian, Jimmy Kimmel, indefinitely suspended after Kirk-related comments.
The funeral is also designated as a Special Event Assessment Rating Level 1 by the Department of Homeland Security, “reserved for events of the highest national significance.”
