A close friend of Al Pacino’s has revealed the one regret the star has in the wake of Diane Keaton’s death – that he didn’t marry her when he had the chance.
Keaton passed away Saturday, October 11, much to the shock and surprise of her fans worldwide. The actor’s friend, Grammy and Oscar-winning songwriter Carole Bayer Sager, told People Magazine that they had met “two or three weeks ago,” and that Diane had “lost so much weight.”
After the wildfires in California in January, Keaton had spent a lot of time in Palm Springs.
“She had to go to Palm Springs because her house had been damaged inside, and they had to clean everything,” Sager said.
“She was down there for a while, and when she came back, I was kind of stunned by how much weight she’d lost.”
Keaton’s exact cause of death has not yet been revealed but the iconic actor’s passing prompted tributes from all manner of superstars within the entertainment industry.
That includes Al Pacino, who dated Keaton on and off between 1971 to 1987.

According to the Daily Mail, Al Pacino was eventually handed an ultimatum by Keaton after years of back and forth: ask for her hand in marriage, or walk away.
Pacino chose the latter. Now, as per a friend of the Scarface star, he regrets his decision.
“Looking back, Al admits the love of his life was Diane who he’s always called, ‘an amazing woman’!” a friend of the actor told the Mail.
“I know he will forever regret he didn’t make his move when he had the chance.
“For years after he and Diane split, Al used to say, ‘if it’s meant to be, it’s never too late for a do-over’. But sadly, now it is.”
Sadly, the insider added that Keaton and Pacino never took advantage of the fact that they resided close to one another.
“Though he and Diane both lived in Beverly Hills, only a few miles from each other for years, they never spoke,” they said.
“I once asked him why, and he told me, ‘There’s no need to talk with each other. We said everything that needed to be said at the time’.”

Pacino and Keaton first met on the set of the blockbuster film The Godfather. Pacino gained plaudits for his portrayal of Michael Corleone, with Keaton playing his second wife, Kay.
She went on to win an Oscar for Best Actress for her iconic performance in Annie Hall in 1977. Over the years, she built an incredible career starring in hits like The First Wives Club, several Nancy Meyers films, and the popular Book Club movies.
