Lauren Alaina Channels Love And Loss Into New Music

Country music sweetheart Lauren Alaina is using the joy and pain in life as inspiration for new music. She lost her father, JJ Suddeth, unexpectedly on July 23rd, 2024. Less than one year later, she welcomed her first child, a baby girl, on June 11th, 2025.

The arrival of her daughter was coupled with the release of the emotional song “Heaven Sent.” Now, she has written and released a song about the perspective shift that often comes after great loss.

The Georgia native first teased “Little Things” on the one-year anniversary of her father’s death. Lauren shared heartfelt reflections from her journey over the last year. She wrote:

“I’ve spent the last 365 days learning how to live in a world that doesn’t have my daddy in it. Some days I still forget and reach for the phone to tell him something. Other days, I sit in silence and let the grief come in.”

Lauren admitted how she often experiences grief in the “little things” – holidays, birthdays, life changes, and family gatherings. She continued:

“It’s dreaming you’re here and waking up remembering. It’s life moving forward but feeling stuck in what was. It’s in the way I go about my days now. Slower. Softer. More aware of what truly matters and what doesn’t.”
