Lapland, Finland – The Kardashian family is no stranger to drama, but their recent trip to the Arctic Circle delivered a new kind of tension—one that only comes from mixing exes, new flames, and a camera crew in the land of Santa Claus. In a recent episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, fans watched as Kourtney Kardashian bravely navigated the icy waters of co-parenting with Scott Disick and his then-girlfriend Sofia Richie on an unforgettable, and at times uncomfortably awkward, family vacation to Finland.
A Blended Family Adventure—Or Disaster?
It all started innocently enough. Kourtney, always searching for the next adventure, proposed a girls’ trip to Finland to chase the northern lights and experience the magic of Lapland. But as plans evolved, so did the guest list. What began as a girls-only getaway quickly turned into a spring break family affair, with Scott eager not to miss out on precious time with their kids, Mason, Penelope, and Reign.
And then came the twist: Kourtney suggested inviting Sofia Richie, Scott’s girlfriend, to join them. “They don’t make me feel like I’m left out, which is nice,” Kourtney explained, radiating her trademark cool-girl confidence. “Or else I wouldn’t go or invite her to come.” But as the group prepared for their arctic escape, questions lingered—how would Sofia feel about being sandwiched between Scott’s past and present?
Unspoken Tensions and Uncomfortable Questions
While Kourtney maintained an air of nonchalance, even Khloé couldn’t help but wonder if anyone had checked in with Sofia about how she felt. “I mean, I haven’t,” Kourtney admitted. “That’s up to them to have their conversations about.” It was a telling moment, foreshadowing the emotional tightrope everyone would walk in the days to come.
As the family jetted off to the snowy north, the mood was hopeful. “It’s nice to show the kids that we can all be together,” Kourtney mused. The group checked into a cozy treehouse hotel, ready to chase the northern lights, meet Santa Claus, and create magical memories. But beneath the surface, Scott was already feeling the pressure. “Out of all the trips we’ve been on, this one has a little bit more pressure,” he confessed. “There are camera crews everywhere, and Sofia’s never really done anything like this before.”
Trying to Make It Work
Despite the awkwardness, the group dove into the Finnish experience: dog sledding, reindeer rides, ice fishing, and cozy fireside moments. Kourtney, Scott, Sofia, and the kids posed for family photos and even wrote letters to Santa. But the cracks soon began to show.
Scott, torn between his history with Kourtney and his relationship with Sofia, struggled to find his footing. “Sometimes you have so many inside jokes or inside things with somebody you’ve known for so long, even if you’re not romantically with them, you don’t really know how to act,” he admitted. “It is definitely a really hard and awkward situation. I just feel bad because at the end, I want the people I love in my life to be happy.”
Sofia, for her part, tried to keep up with the whirlwind of Kardashian family traditions and inside jokes. But as Scott later revealed, she felt left out—an outsider in a family that’s been doing this for over a decade. “She feels like she doesn’t fit into everything sometimes,” Scott said. “I haven’t really had a second by myself to even have a conversation to make her feel comfortable.”
The Pressure Cooker
As the days passed, the strain became more apparent. Scott’s mood turned sour, and he began looking for reasons to bow out of activities. “Scott really wanted to come with us to Finland, so I don’t know why he’s just having such a negative attitude,” Kourtney confided. “He’s just kind of putting a dark cloud over it.”
The tension peaked when Scott abruptly left a family outing after Mason fell asleep in the car, leaving Kourtney baffled. “We flew across the world to come and see this place, and just in the middle of it, they just got up and left,” she said, her disappointment palpable.
Later, Scott opened up about the unique pressure of trying to balance everyone’s feelings. “Sometimes it’s like, I’m trying to pay attention to everybody without neglecting anybody. And Sofia mentioned to me that I’m acting a little differently around Kourtney. It’s tough, because Kourtney and I have so much history.”
Real Talk and Resolution
After days of tiptoeing around each other, Scott and Kourtney finally sat down for a heart-to-heart. Both admitted to putting too much pressure on themselves to make the trip perfect. “I want everyone to be happy,” Kourtney said. “You put so much pressure on things to make it perfect… But I’ve been not really doing that as much anymore. You just think, ‘Oh, it’s one more experience we have that we didn’t have before.’”
Scott agreed, realizing he didn’t need to do everything or make everyone happy all the time. “After actually talking it through and communicating, which I probably should have done from the start, it definitely made things a lot clearer,” he said. “The truth of the matter is I don’t need to put as much pressure on myself.”
With the air finally cleared, the group was able to relax and enjoy the magic of Finland. Scott spent some one-on-one time with Sofia, while Kourtney and the kids soaked up the Arctic adventure. They made s’mores, played in the snow, and—at long last—caught a glimpse of the elusive northern lights.
A Blended Family Win
By the end of the trip, what could have been a disaster turned into a testament to the Kardashian-Disick family’s ability to adapt, forgive, and move forward. “At the end of the day, it was honestly just me and maybe some of my insecurities,” Scott reflected. “For me, it’s one of the best things I have in my life.”
Kourtney echoed the sentiment, grateful for the chance to create new memories together. “I loved our trip to Finland. We were able to see the northern lights, which is such a blessing. And I feel like it’s nice to all be able to go together and experience it all together. I didn’t think it was going to be this beautiful.”
The Takeaway
If there’s one thing this trip proved, it’s that blending families isn’t easy—even for the Kardashians. But with honesty, communication, and a willingness to embrace the awkward, it’s possible to find joy in unexpected places. As the northern lights danced across the Finnish sky, the family found a little bit of magic—and a lot of hope for the future.
