At the age of 27, Karoline Leavitt has transitioned from serving ice cream in her New Hampshire hometown to addressing the nation from the White House podium as a representative of the Trump administration. Once aspiring to be a journalist, she has evolved into a staunch critic of the media and a prominent figure among Gen Z conservatives.
However, her recent comments directed at former President Joe Biden have drawn significant criticism, with many labeling her remarks as disrespectful and immature.
During Biden’s address on Social Security at a national conference in Chicago, Leavitt was invited to share her thoughts. She remarked, “My initial reaction upon seeing that former President Biden was speaking tonight was surprise that he was doing so at night. I had assumed his bedtime was much earlier than this speech.”

This age-related comment, aimed at the 81-year-old former president, quickly gained traction online. Although Leavitt also discussed Trump’s dedication to Social Security, many were unable to overlook what they perceived as an ageist jab.
“President Trump is fully committed to safeguarding Social Security benefits for law-abiding, tax-paying American citizens and seniors who have contributed to this program,” she asserted. “He will always defend this program.
He campaigned on it, upheld it during his first term, and is returning to ensure its protection.” Nevertheless, it was her initial comment that ignited a firestorm on social media. Critics inundated Facebook and Instagram with responses condemning her tone as disrespectful and juvenile. One user highlighted her marriage to a man 32 years older than herself, stating, “No class at all. Shame on you. How old is your HUSBAND?” Others characterized her remarks as “inappropriate,” “condescending,” and “unnecessary.”
Additionally, she addressed previous tax cuts under Trump and raised concerns regarding ongoing issues within the Social Security Administration, including layoffs and sharing initiatives backed by Elon Musk. Disability attorney Jason Turkish echoed the rising apprehension, emphasizing that Social Security has long been regarded as a program beyond reproach.Turkish noted that, despite recent difficulties, the SSA has eased some of its contentious identification requirements, which he described as a “hopeful sign.”
Biden’s address also reflected sentiments from his farewell speech earlier this year, in which he expressed gratitude to Americans for their support over the past fifty years. “I continue to believe in the principles that this nation represents,” he stated. “Now it is your responsibility to protect them… I cherish America. You do as well.”
With Social Security becoming a focal point of renewed discussions, Leavitt’s remarks have heightened political tensions. Supporters contend that she is being straightforward, while critics argue that she has overstepped. Regardless, her succinct comments have rekindled a wider conversation about the tone, respect, and increasingly charged nature of political dialogue.
