If you think you know 50 Cent, think again. The Grammy-winning rap superstar and self-made mogul has built an empire that stretches far beyond music—and he’s still adding new chapters to his story. In a candid sit-down with “Extra’s” Mona Kosar Abdi, 50 Cent opened up about his billion-dollar journey, his reaction to being name-dropped by Taylor Swift, and why he’s rooting for NFL star Travis Kelce.
A Billion-Dollar Hustle
It’s your birthday, but for 50 Cent, every day is a celebration of hustle and ambition. Worth nearly an estimated billion dollars, he’s proof that talent and tenacity can break boundaries. “You may know him as a Grammy-winning rap superstar,” Abdi says, “but did you know the self-made mogul is worth nearly a billion?”
Their history goes way back. Fans might remember 50 Cent crashing a 2015 interview with Eminem—now Extra’s most-watched video on YouTube, with over 35 million views. “I was trying to get him to go on tour,” 50 Cent reminisces, “and then he was like, ‘I just don’t want to go on tour and come back and Haley’s grown.’”
Fast forward, and life moves fast. “We really did just go on a tour and come back and now they’re grown,” 50 marvels. “He’s a grandfather, not me!” he jokes, flashing that signature grin.
Taylor Swift’s Shout-Out: Crossing Genres and Making Waves
50 Cent isn’t just making headlines for his business moves. He was recently name-dropped in Taylor Swift’s new song, “Ruin the Friendship.” The rapper’s reaction? Pure excitement. “It really is cool,” he says, “because when she makes the reference, if you listen to the song, it’s to what was going on in culture at that time. The music, you couldn’t miss it.”
For 50, the shout-out isn’t just a nod—it’s a testament to his impact across genres. “No one was more prominent in music at that point,” he reflects. “So yeah, cross genres. It’s exciting to have that.”
And he’s not just a fan of Taylor’s music—he’s a fan of her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, too. “I like her boyfriend, too. I like the team. I like Kelce,” he says. “Do you like them together?” Abdi asks. “I do. I do. I like it a lot better than the last thing he had going on,” 50 laughs.
If Taylor sends a wedding invitation, will 50 Cent RSVP? “I would make my way over there,” he promises.

The Only Artist Shouted Out
50 Cent is quick to point out he’s the only artist to get a shout-out on Swift’s latest album. “Super cool, right?” he beams. Could a collaboration be in the cards? “We got to ask her because she’s in the driver’s seat. You know how big Taylor Swift is right now?”
Media Mogul: From ‘Power’ to 40 Projects in the Works
Music is just one part of 50 Cent’s empire. He’s the mastermind behind the hit STARZ crime series “Power,” which has spawned four spin-offs, including the upcoming “Power Origins.” “It was a project that very few believed in,” 50 recalls. “I went to Jimmy Kimmel… and he was like, ‘What network?’ And I was like, ‘STARZ.’ And he was like…” 50 shrugs, laughing at the memory.
But “Power” became a phenomenon, topping ratings in African-American and Latina households. Now, 50 Cent has 40 projects across 12 networks, with 10 going into production. “Two film projects this year,” he shares. “One, ‘Moses Moses is the Black,’ that I produced, and the other, I performed as Balrog in ‘Street Fighter.’”
For UK fans, there’s “Fight Land,” currently filming. And in November, the “Power” origin story begins, with “Force” returning to air on November 7th. “I just launched ‘50 Ways to Catch a Killer’ with Fox Nation,” he adds. “Each episode is its own special study in solving a murder. Buckle up. This one’s a ride.”
How Does He Do It All?
With so many projects, how does 50 Cent manage his time? “Different days,” he explains. “I’m doing different things on different days. The projects take longer to get out. Some will make it, some won’t. By the time they decide what made it and what didn’t, I would have sold them some more.”
Is his mind always working? “You got to stay doing something new,” 50 says. That relentless drive is what sets him apart.

Giving Back—But Not Giving Away Secrets
His latest venture is a partnership with Lalique for the ultra-exclusive 505 Edition Branson Cognac. “This is very expensive,” 50 says. “Louis the 13 has to move over for this right here.” A portion of sales goes to charity, showing 50’s commitment to giving back.
But when it comes to advice for the next generation of rappers, 50 plays it close to the vest. “Nope,” he laughs. “There’s no reason for me to tell them the good stuff. I have to have a relationship with them to tell them those things. Not just the first time the guy comes to the artist and he’s excited.”
Where does his drive come from? “I think I already had it,” 50 says. “I just didn’t have the opportunity to show it. I just needed the money first.”
The Legacy Continues
From music to media, business to charity, 50 Cent is a force who keeps moving forward. Whether he’s celebrating a Taylor Swift shout-out, rooting for Travis Kelce, or launching the next big TV hit, one thing’s clear—he’s not slowing down anytime soon.
As he says, “You know what I’m talking about.”
