On the occasion of their 35th wedding anniversary, Jon Bon Jovi shared the story of his brief marriage with Dorothea Bongiovi, a partner who has been together since high school.

In 1989, when Bon Jovi was at the peak of his career with the albums “Slippery When Wet” and “New Jersey”, he suddenly decided to marry Dorothea. At the time, they were just getting engaged and Bon Jovi was on tour with the band.

“We were in Los Angeles and I came up with the idea of going to Las Vegas right away. My girlfriend agreed, and so we flew there. The taxi driver was the witness to our rushed wedding,” Bon Jovi recalled.

This bold decision surprised many people, from family and friends to both Bon Jovi’s manager and crew. However, Bon Jovi insists it’s the right thing to do: “We did it right.”

Dorothea has always been a solid defender for Bon Jovi, especially during the period when he had vocal cord problems that almost cost him his career. “Joy is something you have to create yourself. And now, I have found it,” Bon Jovi shared.
